Alert: Eastern Airlines Private Charter Flight, Thursday, April 16, Peru (April 13, 2020)
7 MINUTE READ
April 13, 2020

Location: Peru (countrywide)

Event: No more U.S. Government-charter flights are scheduled.  Instead, the U.S. Embassy coordinated with Eastern Airlines to offer a private charter flight from Lima, Peru, to Miami, Florida.  The upcoming flight is tentatively scheduled for Thursday, April 16, provided a sufficient number of tickets are booked.  To date, the U.S. Embassy has repatriated approximately 7,150 Americans.

The U.S. Embassy is supporting Eastern Airlines with logistical advice and will continue to provide transit letters to present to security officials at checkpoints.  Private charter airlines set their own prices, which are generally higher than the pre-COVID-19 market price.  The April 16 flight will fly direct to Miami, allow one to three pieces of luggage, and may accommodate pets.  If you have an urgent need to return to the United States, please seriously consider this option. Peru’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced April 10 that regularly scheduled repatriation flights will end on Tuesday, April 21.  Flights after April 21 will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis and approvals will be reserved only for exceptional circumstances.  We urge U.S. citizens who wish to return to the United States to take advantage of all viable options.  If you cannot board an upcoming flight, be prepared to remain in Peru until the country’s government ends its nationwide restrictions to prevent the spread of COVID-19.

Updated Peruvian quarantine movement restrictions stipulate that from Monday to Saturday, only one person per family (regardless of gender), may conduct limited routine business such as grocery shopping, pharmacy visits, and banking.  Curfew hours are from 6 PM to 4 AM for Lima and most of Peru, except for La Libertad, Lambayeque, Loreto, Piura, and Tumbes regions, where curfew hours begin at 4 PM and end at 4 AM. The U.S. Embassy recommends U.S. citizens adhere to all quarantine measures due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

We are working hard to bring #AmericansHome.
