Alert: Lima & Iquitos Flights and Potential Private Charter, Peru (April 9, 2020)
8 MINUTE READ
April 9, 2020

Location: Peru (countrywide)

Event: To date, the U.S. Embassy has repatriated approximately 6,630 Americans. One flight will depart Lima today, and another is scheduled to depart on Saturday, April 11, pending Peruvian government approval. Saturday’s flight is slated to depart Lima for Iquitos before continuing on to Miami. We have been in contact with the nonprofit organization, Warriors Angel Rescue, and are aware of this group’s interest in assisting U.S. citizens with transportation to the Iquitos airport. No U.S. Embassy flights are scheduled for Friday, April 10, or Sunday, April 12.

We are aware that private tour operator Solange Reps has shared an online form for travelers to express interest in a possible flight from Lima to Miami on Friday, April 10. To register your interest, please click on this link: https://forms.gle/Ldgy3FxBDEsPPZXZ8. As this is not a U.S. Embassy-sponsored flight, interested travelers should contact the company directly for more information.

We do not anticipate ongoing, regularly scheduled flights. We urge U.S. citizens who wish to return to the United States to take advantage of any options you are offered. We are working with private companies and other countries to explore additional flight options and will inform you as soon as they become available. If you cannot board an upcoming flight, be prepared to remain in Peru until the country’s government ends its nationwide restrictions to prevent the spread of COVID-19.Travelers who choose to remain in Peru after expressing interest in a flight slow and complicate the process for everyone.

Yesterday, Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra announced that emergency measures in Peru, including the closure of borders, will continue through April 26.  Today, April 9, and tomorrow, April 10, all routine business will be closed and no one will be allowed to leave their residence except to obtain emergency medical services (Supreme Decree Nº 061-2020-PCM).

We encourage everyone to comply with the Peruvian Government’s quarantine measures and to follow the instructions of Peruvian authorities.  Limit your time outside and carry your identification and phone. Wear a facemask while out in public.

We are working hard to bring #AmericansHome.
