April 14, 2020

Location: Peru (countrywide)

Event: Today, the government of Peru announced hefty fines for not respecting the COVID-19 curfew and for being in public without a facemask.  Curfew hours are from 6 PM to 4 AM for Lima and most of Peru, except for the regions of La Libertad, Lambayeque, Loreto, Piura, and Tumbes, where curfew hours begin at 4 PM and end at 4 AM.  The U.S. Embassy recommends U.S. citizens adhere to all quarantine measures due to the outbreak of COVID-19.

For U.S. Citizens and Lawful Permanent Residents concerned about tax return filing deadlines, the Internal Revenue Service announced that the federal income tax filing due date is extended from April 15, 2020, to July 15, 2020. Taxpayers can also defer federal income tax payments due on April 15, 2020, to July 15, 2020, without penalties or interest, regardless of the amount owed.  For more detailed information on the extension, please visit the IRS website.
