Alert: Resumption of Travel within Peru and Upcoming Repatriation Flights, Peru (July 15, 2020)

Location: Peru (countrywide)

Event:  Beginning today, July 15, domestic travel resumes throughout Peru except for Áncash, Arequipa, Huánuco, Ica, Junín, Madre de Dios, and San Martín. Travel is prohibited to and from these seven regions where quarantine is still in effect.  U.S. citizens traveling from restricted areas for repatriation flights should email PeruRepatriations@state.gov for more information.
 
Air Travel within Peru:  Air travel within Peru is limited to domestic flights.  Peru’s Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) and the Ministry of Health (MINSA) have established new health and safety guidelines for air travel.   Travelers are encouraged to follow the guidelines summarized below.  For more information refer to the MTC’s published safety protocols (in Spanish) available at https://www.gob.pe/institucion/mtc/noticias/206498-conozca-los-lineamientos-de-transporte-aereo-de-pasajeros-para-la-prevencion-del-covid-19-publicado-por-el-mtc.
  • Check-in:  Passengers departing from the Jorge Chávez International Airport in Lima should arrive three (3) hours prior to departure for check-in.  Travelers departing from regional airports should arrive two (2) hours prior to departure.
  • Face Coverings:  Facemasks in addition to face shields are required.
  • Health Screening:  All passengers will have their temperature taken prior to entering the airport.  Individuals with a fever or a temperature over 38ºC (100.4ºF) will not be allowed to enter the passenger terminal.
  • Ticketed Passengers Only:  Only ticketed passengers are permitted in airport terminals.  Individuals requiring special assistance may have one (1) person accompany them in the airport to assist with check-in.
  • Children:  Minors under 14 may only travel with a parent or guardian.  Children may not travel unaccompanied.
  • Sworn Declarations:  All passengers (including minors) are required to sign a sworn declaration prior to boarding stating that they are not presenting COVID-19 symptoms and that they have not been exposed to COVID-19 within the past 14 days.  See annexes four and five of the Ministry Resolution for example air travel declarations.
Ground Travel:  Ground travel within Peru is limited to domestic travel.  Travelers on interprovincial buses must also follow MTC and MINSA safety protocols.  The guidelines are summarized below.  For more information on interprovincial (regional) travel, refer to the MTC’s published safety protocols (in Spanish) available at https://www.gob.pe/institucion/mtc/noticias/206490-transporte-interprovincial-protocolo-sanitario-del-mtc-establece-los-requisitos-que-debes-tener-en-cuenta-antes-de-abordar-un-vehiculo.
  • Check-in:  Ticketed passengers should arrive early.
  • Face Coverings:  Facemasks in addition to face shields are required.
  • Health Screening:  All passengers will have their temperature taken.
  • Seats: Passengers are prohibited from standing on buses – all passengers must be seated.
  • Sworn Declarations:  All passengers (including minors) are required to sign a sworn declaration prior to boarding stating that they are not presenting COVID-19 symptoms and that they have not been exposed to COVID-19 within the past 14 days. See annexes three and four of the Ministry Resolution for example ground travel declarations.
Repatriation Flights:  All U.S. citizens who wish to depart Peru should contact one of our travel partners directly to purchase a ticket on a repatriation flight. We continue to announce viable scheduled flights through travel partners in our email alerts.  DO NOT WAIT TO BE CONTACTED BY THE U.S. EMBASSY TO PURCHASE A TICKET ON A REPATRIATION FLIGHT International borders remain closed for the near future.  If you remain in Peru, please continue to follow Peruvian government health and safety guidelines and quarantine restrictions.
