Ambassador Urs celebrates International Women’s Day in Tacna

U.S. Ambassador to Peru Krishna R. Urs hosted a reception at the Tacna Binational Center (Centro Cultural Peruano Norteamericano de Tacna) to celebrate International Women’s Day.  Tacna Provincial Mayor Julio Medina Castro, Tacna Binational Center President of the Board of Directors Mauricio Pérez-Wicht San Román, “Thunderbird for Good” Director for Latin America Cindy Yeager, and representatives from Freeport-McMoRan Peru and Chile joined the event.

The reception launched the Binational DreamBuilder 2019 Women’s Entrepreneurship Encounter.  U.S. Embassy Lima, a partner in the DreamBuilder women’s entrepreneurship initiative and the Tacna Binational Center will host this two-day encounter, with the first day in Tacna and the second day in Arica.

The Embassy brought together local leaders to the reception to celebrate International Women’s History Month and recognize women’s contributions to prosperity and integration in their communities.

During the reception, Ambassador Urs noted, “Our objective is to contribute to the empowerment and success of Peru’s women entrepreneurs through training and networking spaces.”

Ambassador Urs addressed the DreamBuilder participants, saying, “We hope this binational encounter will allow you to expand your business networks and will provide new and improved opportunities for your businesses.”

U.S. Embassy Lima supports the DreamBuilder program for women entrepreneurs since 2016.  To date, more than 500 women entrepreneurs have completed the course, and more than 100 women have been recognized for their business plans through seed funds and English scholarships.  In 2019, U.S. Embassy Lima has started DreamBuilder programs in Chepén, Huancayo and La Merced, and will start programs in Jaén, Huánuco, Huancavelica, Ayacucho, Piura, and Trujillo.  Visit https://dreambuilder.org to learn more about DreamBuilder.
