The U.S. Embassy maintains a Consular Agency in Cusco for emergency and other services to U.S. citizens resident or traveling in the Cusco region.
All visits to the Consular Agency in Cusco are by appointment only. While public office hours may vary, you can contact the Agent between 8 a.m. and 2 p.m. by e-mail to schedule an appointment. In the case of a true emergency requiring immediate attention outside normal business hours, the Agent may be reached day or night at: 01 618-2000 (if dialing from Peru) or  +51 1 618-2000 (if dialing from the United States).
Some examples of true emergencies are: death or severe injury/illness involving a U.S. citizen, the arrest of a U.S. citizen, or when a U.S. citizen has been the victim of a robbery or other violent crime. Please do not contact the Agent for services after-hours because of imminent travel plans, or the possibility of a missed flight, which are not threats to life or safety. If necessary, adjust your travel date, and appropriate assistance will be provided on the following business day.
Do not contact the Consular Agency in Cusco regarding visa matters. The Agency does not process visa applications and the Consular Agent is not trained or authorized to answer visa inquiries. You may find answers to most visa questions on the Visas page, or you may contact the Visa Unit for information about specific visa cases.

The Consular Agency is located five minutes walk from the Plaza de Armas on Av. El Sol, and just around the corner from the Qorikancha Temple.
Payment for Services
Payment is made on the day of the appointment, at the Consular Agency. The fee can be paid in cash (Peruvian Soles), or with a credit card (Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Discover, or Diners Card). Personal checks, money orders or banker’s drafts are not accepted. The fee is a non-refundable processing fee, and is retained by the Department of State whether or not the passport or Consular Report of Birth Abroad is issued.
The Consular Agent in Cusco is not authorized to issue visas, accept visa applications, or to advise/assist with visa applications. Information about U.S. visas is available elsewhere on the Embassy’s website, or at Travel.State.gov.
The Consular Agent must be available for emergencies involving U.S. citizens, or to provide other standard services to U.S. citizens. Therefore, the Agent will not respond to phone or e-mail inquiries related to U.S. visas; please do not call for this purpose. All specific visa inquiries must be directed to LimaNIV@state.gov
U.S. Passports and Document Services
The Consular Agency in Cusco accepts applications for most of the same services provided by the American Citizen Services unit in Lima, such as: passport renewals, reports of birth or death abroad, and notary services. Please contact the Agent during normal business hours (8am-5pm) by email or phone to schedule an appointment.
As a convenience for U.S. citizens, the U.S. Consular Agency in Cusco is a claims acceptance point for U.S. federal benefits, such as Social Security or Veterans benefits. The claims are not processed in Cusco, or at the Embassy in Lima – but rather, they are forwarded to the appropriate agency in the United States for processing.
The Consular Agency in Cusco cannot give tax advice or submit tax returns on behalf of filers. Tax forms must be mailed or electronically submitted directly by the filer. Information about filing your taxes from overseas can be found at www.IRS.gov.
