Demonstration Alert: Planned Demonstrations in Peru – July 27-29

Anti-government protestors may hold demonstrations in multiple locations in Lima over the Peruvian Independence Day weekend from July 27 to July 29. These protests may occur at or near Plaza San Martin, Parque de la Cultura, Paseo de Los Heroes Navales, Plaza Dos de Mayo, and Plaza Bolognesi in Central Lima. Expect heavy traffic conditions and a heightened security presence. Demonstrations may also occur in other cities around the country.
The Embassy has advised its personnel to avoid the areas of the demonstrations.
Actions to take:
- Avoid crowds and demonstrations.
- Do not interfere with or attempt to circumvent roadblocks; travelers have been injured doing so in the past.
- Follow instructions from the Peruvian National Police, Peruvian Armed Forces, and local authorities.
- Monitor local media for updates.
- Keep a low profile.
