This morning, the Ambassador of the United States, Krishna Urs, welcomed the United States Navy hospital ship USNS Comfort upon his arrival at the port of Callao. “This medical mission highlights the permanent ties that unite the government of the United States and Peru,” said Ambassador Urs, on the opening day of “Operation Brotherhood” (English translation for Peruvian Mission Name “Operación Hermandad”).
The “Operation Brotherhood”, which includes up to 20 daily surgeries aboard the Comfort and free medical appointments, is part of a five-month deployment supporting partner countries in the region.
“Thanks to Peru, Argentina, Brazil, Canada, Costa Rica and Mexico for the efforts and medical attention to more than 4,000 people during this week. We value this important relationship and we need your friendship”, said the Commander of the 4th Fleet of the United States Navy, Rear Admiral Donald Gabrielson, during the ceremony.
Ambassador Urs also thanked the Peruvian authorities for their support at the national, regional and municipal levels, including a very close collaboration with the Ministry of Defense, through the Peruvian Navy, the Ministry of Health, the National Police of Peru and the Armed Forces.
This noble cause will provide a better quality of life to hundreds of patients, who will be assisted in places that have been properly conditioned to function as temporary health care centers,” said the General Commander of the Peruvian Navy, Admiral Fernando Cerdán.
