INL Lima’s Drug Demand Reduction (DDR) program goal is to reduce drug use and related drug offenses in Peru. INL builds capacity in substance abuse treatment and prevention nationwide, by seeking to break the cycle of criminality through providing treatment and counseling as alternatives to incarceration for eligible juvenile offenders.
INL Lima’s DDR programs use evidence-based practices to reach underserved populations and vulnerable groups, basing our capacity building on the Universal Prevention and Treatment curricula, known as UPC and UTC. INL Lima trains health professionals in substance abuse treatment focused on women and girls and the LGBTQI+ community and has programs in 250 community mental health centers nationwide.
