Event: Updated Masking Policy (April 29, 2022)
On April 23, the Government of Peru released Supreme Decree N° 041-2022-PCM adjusting the current outdoor masking policy. The decree stipulates that, beginning May 1, wearing a mask while outdoors will be optional in areas with at least 80 percent of the over-60 years of age population fully vaccinated against COVID-19 with three doses, and at least 80 percent of the over-12 years of age population vaccinated with two doses. According to Peruvian health authorities, the areas that currently meet these criteria are:
- Ancash
- Callao
- Ica
- Metropolitan Lima
- Lima Provinces
In all areas, social distancing and other COVID-19 prevention measures continue to apply. The decree also extended the current health emergency for an additional 30 days, through May 31, 2022.
