Endless Summer? The Northern Hemisphere Summer Travel Season is Coming — Renew Your U.S. Passport Today!

With the Northern Hemisphere summer travel season fast approaching, U.S. Embassy Lima reminds all U.S. citizens to ensure that their passports and travel documents are valid for international travel to or from Peru.  Peru and other countries require a passport with a minimum of six months validity.  Peruvian immigration authorities will not allow travelers or residents to enter if their passport has less than six months validity at the time of entry.  Under U.S. law, U.S. citizens returning to the United States must travel on a valid, unexpired U.S. passport.

Ample passport and Consular Report of Birth Abroad appointments are currently available at U.S. Embassy Lima, but wait times are expected to grow as more people make summer travel plans.  Processing time for a passport or Consular Report of Birth Abroad application may take up to four weeks.  The U.S. Embassy urges travelers to check passport validity and plan for passport renewal accordingly to avoid disruptions to their travel plans.

Appointments can be reserved online for the U.S. Embassy in Lima and booked via e-mail for the U.S. Consular Agency in Cusco.  Prior to your appointment, use the Passport Wizard to save time, find and complete the proper forms, and pay the correct fees.  Many adults can renew without a trip to the Embassy or Consular Agency — check if you are eligible to renew your passport by mail.
