The Jorge Chavez International Airport in Lima, Peru experienced widespread flight delays and cancellations due to the failure of the runway lighting system on June 2, 2024.  All flights departing and arriving at Jorge Chavez International Airport were temporarily suspended until 5:00am on June 3, 2024.

Airport authorities reported that the system has now been repaired and flight departures and arrivals have resumed, though numerous flights were canceled or diverted on June 2 and 3.  U.S. citizens traveling to or through Lima’s Jorge Chavez International Airport should prepare for possible delays and remain flexible as authorities and airlines work to resolve the situation.

• Review your travel plans to adjust for possible delays and disruptions.
• Contact your airline or travel company for assistance.
• Monitor local media for updates.
• Exercise caution if unexpectedly in the vicinity of large gatherings or crowds.
• Register in STEP to receive alerts and messaging from the U.S. Embassy in Lima.
