Online fee payment is currently available for adult passport book renewals only

If you wish to renew or apply for a passport card, you must make an appointment to apply in person at the Embassy in Lima.

As of February 27, 2022, the U.S. Embassy in Lima is able to receive certain adult passport renewal applications by mail.  Currently, the mail-in renewal option is only available at certain DHL drop-off locations in Lima and Arequipa.  Please continue to check this page for updates on additional locations.

How to Qualify

Mail-In Passport Renewal Qualifications

You may qualify for this service if you can answer “YES” to all the following statements:

  • Your most recent U.S. passport was issued with a 10-year validity.
  • Your U.S. passport was issued within the last 15 years.
  • You were at least 16 years old at the time your most recent U.S. passport was issued.
  • Your most recent U.S. passport is not damaged/lost/stolen, and you are able to submit that passport.
  • You use the same name as on your most recent U.S. passport, or you have changed your name and can submit legal documentation to show this change.

If you answered NO to any of the statements above, you are NOT eligible to renew your passport by mail or pay your passport renewal fee online.  Please review the following options on this web page to choose the one that best suits your situation.

How to apply

To renew your passport by mail, please follow the instructions below and submit the following required documents:

  1. Form DS-82
  • You may complete the application online using the Passport Wizard, or print out and write legibly.
  • All applications must be filled out in black ink.
  • All fields should be filled out correctly and completely. Failure to do so can substantially delay processing time.
  • You must follow the procedures on this pdf checklist or your application may be rejected.
  1. Proof you paid your application fee. Printout of email from Pay.gov using this link that confirms you successfully paid the non-refundable $130 application fee; insert Peru as renewal location. Applicants may create an account or instead utilize the payment form as a “guest user.”  Pay the application fee online at the following website: https://pay.gov/public/form/start/607957567.
  2. Photo: One WHITE background color passport photo 2” x 2” (5 x 5 cm) taken within the past 6 months; no eyeglasses. See our photo requirements here.
  3. Your most recent full validity U.S. passport. Old passports will be canceled and returned with the newly issued passport.
  4. A photocopy of the biographic page of your passport with your photo. The photocopy does not have to be in color.
  5. A pre-paid DHL airway bill (AWB). This is required for return service of your original documents and new passport.  See mailing instructions below for more information.

Please be sure to include all requested documents in the application package, as incomplete DS-82 forms and any missing information or documents will result in delays or possible denial of your passport application.  

All applicants are required to provide a return pre-paid DHL airway bill for return service. The American Citizen Services unit may use the pre-paid DHL airway bill provided to return documents if the application package is incomplete.

  • You must purchase and include a pre-paid DHL airway bill (AWB) for return service.
  • The airway bill must contain the applicant’s name, as listed in the applicant’s U.S. passport.
  • Pricing starts at around $8.00 but will depend on weight of the package, delivery location, and applicable taxes.
  • The passport will be returned to the same location the AWB was purchased at.
  • Once you have chosen a DHL office to pick up your documents, you will not be able to change the location.
  • DHL will not accept payments from third parties.
