The Government of Peru will conduct a national census on Sunday, October 22 from 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. The Peruvian government has instructed Peruvian citizens and residents to remain in their place of residence throughout the day to ensure they are registered by a census surveyor from Peru’s National Institute of Statistics (INEI).
Anyone present in Peru should anticipate business closures and diminished public transportation services during the census. Emergency service providers such as local law enforcement, fire brigades, and hospitals will operate normally.
Travelers arriving or departing Peru on Sunday, October 22, are advised of the following information:
- Travelers departing Peru after 12:00 a.m. will be given a special registration at the airport.
- Travelers arriving to Peru from abroad after 8:00 a.m. will not be registered and instead will receive a “certificate of free transit” that will allow them to proceed to their hotel or accommodation.
- Tourists already traveling within Peru are obligated to register using a special registration form provided by their hotel or accommodation.
Tourist attractions such as museums, monuments, and protected areas are expected to operate as scheduled. However, travelers are encouraged to consult with tour and transportation organizers for the latest information.
