U.S. Embassy in Peru

In an official ceremony, the director of the Bureau of International Narcotics and Law Enforcement Affairs (INL) of the United States Embassy in Peru, Charles Sewall, delivered to the Minister of Interior, Alfonso Chávarry, the donation of vehicles, equipment and audiovisual material for the implementation of the Villa El Salvador Family Police Station (VES) in Lima, to whom INL provides support in the fight against gender-based violence (GBV).  The Commander General of the Peruvian National Police (PNP), General Vicente Tiburcio, also attended the ceremony to receive the keys of the vehicles.

The district of Villa El Salvador is one of the most populous in Lima and has a high rate of domestic violence, thus INL has focused its efforts on supporting with the donation of two vans, one of them equipped as a mobile police station allowing residents living in remote areas to file complaints to document their GBV cases; while the other one is intended to verify that protection measures for GBV victims are complied with. 

Furthermore, the police station and its auditorium have been renovated and equipped with audiovisual equipment and other supplies.  The auditorium will be a space for awareness-raising workshops to the population, in addition to organizing and promoting community policing with the support of neighboring promoters to empower the community.  The auditorium will also serve as a space for training related to the fight against GBV .
