U.S. authorities visit Peru to support the return to democracy in Venezuela

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross, National Security Advisor John Bolton, and Special Representative for Venezuela Elliott Abrams were in Lima to attend the Meeting in Support of Interim President of Venezuela Juan Guaidó, in the framework of the International Conference on Democracy in Venezuela on August 6.

The delegation attended a conference focused on the severe crisis in Venezuela, the humanitarian crisis it has caused as well as its regional and global impact. The high-level visitors participated in a meeting of supporters of Interim President of Venezuela Juan Guaidó in his effort to restore the rule of law and democracy in Venezuela.

National Security Advisor Bolton’s remarks at the conference noted the announcement of a new U.S. Executive Order blocking property of the government of Venezuela, while also reaffirming the U.S. commitment to allow the unfettered flow of humanitarian aid to the Venezuelan people. Secretary Ross’ speech offered suggestions by the U.S. government to the government of Venezuelan Interim President Juan Guaidó to help Venezuela’s recovery upon its return to democracy.
